Chapter Six
2:30 am

you arm warms the parts of me
that it touches
my bare skin
against your bare skin
you were always so warm
warmer than me
i was the ice
you never understood why
but simply wrapped yourself
around me
kissed me
and laughed at my constant chill
i slide in closer to you
breathe in your scent
and try to relax
remembering the first time
remembering it all

the night you told me you were leaving
that night i took you with me
to my house
we hung out in my room
for hours
talking about how we would stay close
how we would stay together
through all the distance
and my parents told you to leave
and you tried
but i wouldn’t let you
i told them you had left
you laid there in my bed
your head on my favorite pillow
and watched me change
your aunt thought you were
at your friends house
and we talked into the morning
and as the sun was coming up
we weren’t aware
that was the first time i knew you
the first time
i knew that i knew you
that i understood every part of you
and i’m sure you felt the same way
but i would change
neither of us knew that then
because we both knew what it was like
to be in love
to posses this magic word

and four days later
i stood in your aunts driveway
your teddy bear in my arms
you kissed me
gave me a perfect hug
and as you got into the car
i felt my heart fall out
i walked home
feeling that i would
never see you again
never feel the way you held me
and i was scared

you shift and mutter in your sleep
i wonder what you are dreaming
is it me?
or just some random dream
of strange rooms
terrifying corridors
or water?
i slide over closer to you
try to ignore the feelings
the thoughts in my head
the way things are turning out
i don’t want them to turn out like this
but at the same time i do
and somewhere along the way
i drift out of conciseness
