James' Eyes

Here is the gaze of my son
Isn't he like his dad?
Those same eyes peer directly
from the frame.
Confidence, and strongly held opinions
and quiet merriment to leaven that.

Here is the gaze of my son
He's grown and living far away from me
For much of the year he's a voice
on the telephone
Brief e-mails are his major point of contact
And I have photos on my wall
And memories in my mind
And sometimes I see in his father
James' eyes.

I can feel the motherly love for your son and I can see his love from the eyes looking at me and that's the way he feels about you dear mother. God Bless.
