Pulled myself slowly up off the ground
Looked down at my chest
and averted my eyes from the bloody mess
where my heart could once be found

I struggled to breathe
like I used to do before
tried to make my feet move
but nothing was working anymore

Raging...I railed against myself
for letting a man destroy my world
"I am Woman, hear me roar"
Yeah right... I guess I'm just a girl

I looked in the mirror
afraid of what I'd see
I couldn't believe what was staring back
It still looked like... just me

I expected to see a freak
ugly, broken and twisted
the inside seeping out
with black eyes, claws fisted

Finally... I turned back to Him
Curled on the bathroom floor
Oh God tell me what to do
I can't take this anymore

I can't eat, I can't sleep
I can't think, I can't cry
Lord, if I didn't know better
I'd say I want to die

I didn't hear angels
or see a dazzling light
but my heart felt a voice
and it said "You're absolutely right"

At first I didn't get it
then understanding began to dawn
and I realized that for THAT me
there was no moving on

This wasn't about some sorry man
who lied and broke my heart
In the tragedy/comedy that was my life
I had played the starring part

I don't know when it happened
Can't recall the month or day
the only thing I know for sure
is that I somehow lost His way

Now words can't express
the total joy I felt
as I whispered "Daddy, I'm home"
then bowed my head and knelt

This walk is never easy
but now I'm clinging to His hand
smiling when I turn
and see His footprints in the sand.
