Once again remix

From state to state
Town to town..
I pass these crosses
on the side of the road..
All young lives ended
With stories untold..
Testaments to a life
taken so soon..
Sometimes I see a cross
and I have to stop..
I look at the pictures
on the cross..
They barely had a start.
I see young smiling faces
Looking back at me..
As if to ask
We were only having fun..
everyone does..
Why did we have to die.
I look at the decorations
Placed fresh everyday..
From parents and loved ones
who can't stay away...
Then the rain comes down.
The pictures appear to cry..
So I sit on the wet grass..
To show them I care..
I know life is hard
I know this was unfair..
I watch a once
fluffy pink stuffed toy..
No longer new and soft..
Now the rain has made it dirty..
It is slumped against the cross.
I listen to the rain patter
against helium balloons..
The balloon says
Happy Birthday Jennie..
I hope to see you soon.
So watch for these crosses
As you travel throgh
these high ways and by way..
Remember the message..
And listen to what they say..
We were once young and alive..
Look at where we are today.
Slow down..
Look at us.
Look at the price we paid.
For a little fun..
Just a joy ride..on graduation day.
I am so sorry Mommy..
It had to end this way
Please don' forget us..
as we lay in this eternal place.
