* This poem was inspired by John Zimmerman's lovely haiku "Dancers"

When my heart is weary,
I travel to my special place,
And watch the world from afar,
Listening with ears
That has not forgotten
The earth’s lovely melody…
The winds blow gently through
The long green leaves,
And plays a tune
Few can hear…

I watch then,
As the clouds move,
Swaying softly to the song
The earth plays at noon.
It seems all of life is alive here,
And I feel the lifting of my mood…

Laying back against my rock,
I watch the sun woo the moon-
How brightly he shines,
Leading her on,
Blazing in white hot glory!
How she dips her lovely face,
Not daring to move into his embrace,
Ah but they dance
These two…for all of you-

He moves so powerfully in the sky,
I watch this dance and try not to cry-
She comes to him,
As close as she dares,
And I can only stare
With such sweet sadness
As I watch her gracefully
Move through the sky

Loving with such sweet regret…
Ah, these two wonders mirror my life,
For I too have a love,
I dare not embrace,
Do not look him full in face,
Lest he see my disgrace…

But I love him so much,
And watch my two beauties,
Lean as close as they dare,
Whispering such words of love and care-
He burns her clean with his love,
And she shadows his soul from so high above…

Shall they never be one?
But I know the answer
I seek under this blazing sun…

Still I love to come here and see,
This love that will never be
Consummated until their worlds collide,
Can only lay here and watch
Trying not to cry…

Their beauty too much for me to bear,
This love of the sun,
For his lady so fair…
