You walk the line,
In that far away place,
And I know you’re just trying,
To keep us safe…
But
The bullets are flying,
And it’s such a disgrace,
To say out loud,
How much I miss seeing,
Your beautiful face.
So I smile through the tears,
And try to be brave,
Hiding my fears,
Of you being in that place…

But I miss you baby,
And I want you home,
I didn’t marry you,
To be alone…
But when I see you,
In your dress blues,
The pride I feel,
Lifts my gloom,
And I love you so much,
That though we don’t touch,
I feel your kisses
Each night before I sleep,
And try to keep
The memory of your love,
Where it can’t be touched…

I keep it safe,
Here in my heart,
And dream of the time,
When we won’t be apart…
So walk the line baby,
And do your job well,
Just remember who’s waiting,
For you when you return from that hell-

As you guard our land,
I’ll guard our love,
Keeping it safe,
From the pain and fear,
Guarding against the flow of tears,
Waiting for you baby,
To come back here…

Hoping our love,
Will keep you safe,
As you walk the line,
In that far away place…

I hope he's home soon too, him and all the others. Such a sweet tribute to all the armed forces. Send it into Stars and Stripes the army newspaper.
