Thinking of the things you said,
Making me feel so damn dead,
The words echoing in my head;
“Loser,”
Dude, Why?
“No Reason”
Baby…the words you say,
Cut me worse than any blow,
Trying to pretend,
It didn’t matter,
That somehow it will all,
Just go away…

“Maybe I lied”
“I mean what I say”
“I never said that!”
“I’m good at technicalities…”
All written down in black and white,
No shades of grey to make it right…

You seem to so smug,
When you claim,
Men should not hit women,
But the blows you send,
Give much more pain…

I see you now,
Standing there,
All alone,
See the tears in your eyes,
And wonder why you cry…

I thought this is what you wanted?
My presence causing you such pain,
Your harsh words driving me insane,
The lies you told and flaunted,
In my face like I was so naïve,
Would want to believe…
How could I stay?
Not walk away?
Had to give to you,
What you took from me,
My peace, My safety…
My lovely forest of trees,
That kept me from seeing
Your ugly world of dishonesty.

Hear you act so tough,
Wanting to say;
“That’s enough!”
But I can’t,
Never could-
Just listen to you
Say what I should…

Had to leave,
Couldn’t stay,
Kept losing pieces of me,
Everyday-

Until all I had,
Was a single shred,
A narrow strand of what I was,
Leading me back to my forest,
Who like my true love,
Waited patiently for me to learn,
The truth I never wanted to believe,
Leaves whispering softly in my ears,
“Beware child, you know the stories,
We have told,

Behind those lies he speaks as truth,
Behind the words he uses to soothe,
Lies pain and heartache…
You know you should not believe-
The truth being,
Despite what they say,
Men Leave…

It's so painful to give of yourself to someone you love...then to have them leave you with less than you were in the beginning.
Love, Life and Faith are all so fragile...we must watch over them wisely.
Very good write!

Very painful write that has been done so well. Verbal abuse is more destructive then most people chose to believe. Great write.

Retta,
what a great write, ture verbal abuse sometimes can be worst, woman should be treated with the greatest of respect, and tender loving care, for the are the most fragile loving being created by God.
