Fighting The Night: A Collaboration With Jimmy Mills

Fighting The Night

I will show you with my words,
How much I care,
But never give you the warmth you seek
The touch I cannot bear...

My knees get weak...
I cannot speak;
My mind ponders and often wonders;
When we combine my face always shines;
But, your touch I cannot bear

Those who know me,
Give me space,
Knowing I can’t endure their embrace,
The silence I love,
The dark I crave,
Yet your love keeps me safe,

Knowing you are near...
Takes away my deepest fear;
You bring confidence and joy
Like a kid with a toy;
I travel in the dark
Because you are my light…

The shadows hide my fears,
But knowing you are near,
Gives me renewed hope,
That I will learn to show my love,
The thought of standing by your side,
No longer needing to hide-
No longer just a dream,
Something I feel,
Will someday be real…

So real that I may exhale at last;
Set my soul free while we live in harmony;
Till our dying day we will dance;
Call on the wild
And call on the rain to heal our pain…

Thus at night,
I watch you lay sleeping,
And no one sees me weeping,
Such a fierce love burns in my heart,
I know we shall never part,
For you bear the essence of my soul,
Your love granting the only peace,
I shall ever know…
