She was waiting to be windfall,
rotting upon the caked earth or
collected and given away
as bruised fruit.

I stood beneath the tree
and caught her delicately,
knowing ripe fruit
is easily damaged.

I could have loved her,
the opportunity’s arose
and were left to fall
like petals at her feet.

Her parting footsteps
released a perfume
that lingered for years.

Confused by:
"the opportunity’s arose"
do you mean the 'opportunity' owns 'arose' OR
"opportunities arose"?
In other words, is 'arose' a noun or a verb?
