I need you my friend,
To come sit awhile,
You don’t need to speak,
Or hug me,
Don’t want you to touch me at all,
Just want you to sit awhile-
You know talking is not my style,
Just sit here quietly dear,
So that I know you are here…

My life is a shadow,
A blackness no light can pierce-
And I peer through such darkness,
That I often wonder,
If I am really here…

I think not-
For I hear no sounds here,
Have no visions of beauty,
See nothing that is real,
Just shadows of what once was;

A life I tried to live,
Memories of those I loved,
Now long gone,
They have traveled on,
And left me standing here,
Wondering if
They were ever real…

If you sit with me,
I shall look into your eyes-
To see if you see them too,
To see if you see me,
To see if I see you…

At least then I will know,
That you at least are real,
And seeing your eyes,
Will tell me,
If what I feel are lies-
Shadows that breed in my heart,
Whispering to me,
That is to dangerous to feel,
Your friendship just a fantasy,
That I will never see…

Any love that I seek…
Just part of the shadows,
That always seems to keep me
In such darkness,
Making me run away,
And hide among my trees,
Listening to you call to me,
In the early morning breeze…

So dark here,
I am living in fear-
I cannot tell what is real…
Are you just heartache?
Is your friendship fake?

I need you my friend,
To prove that I am real,
I need you to show
Why you need to know,
The person you think you see,
Is me…

So powerful Retta. You describe
your feelings so well. I suffer
from depression and I know of these
intense feelings of emptiness. Some
times the shadows are more than I can
bear. Email me: lindacares.authorsden.com
if you need to talk. I know how you feel.

Haunting is the only word I can think of at the moment. This pieces stirred feelings and emotions of being invisible that I haven't felt for a long time. Well done!
