My verse began with these lines - yes-
And challenged everyone to guess -

A dragon made of pain
With hidden power
Old woman young again
Unruly hours

No one 'got' my guessing game
No one guessed the author's name.

Inventions many, various-
Include a magicked flying bus
Long before Ms Rowling's car
Made these vehicles well-known stars

"Dogsbody", remember that?
A dog was once a star -
"Power of Three" predated
The show where 'charmed ones' are -
"Fire and Hemlock", "Year of the Griffin" -
"Dark Lord", "Deep Secret" (about ambition)
"Howl's Moving Castle", "Castle in the Air",
Wonderful stories everywhere
"Charmed Life"'s well known,
And "Hexwood" too
"Black Maria"'s worth a view
"Archer's Goon" was on TV
Then there's the "Tale of Time City"
"Eight Days of Luke" and "Wilkin's Tooth"...
And plenty more - and here's the proof
An author of versatility
Gives tales of great Longevity...
Have you got it yet? Hold your groans -
Of *course* you know -

Diana Wynne Jones!

Sally, wonderful.

Tales of a Clear, Dark Night by Jansen Estrup

The heavens, we are taught, have always inspired awe, tradition, even salvation. Why? What did our ancestors see there?..
