Beneath The Willows

There is a place I like to visit
beyond the well kept lawn.
With leafy tendrils so exquisite,
it beckons in the dawn.

Beneath the willows by the lake
I part the curtained boughs.
And come into this sacred place
where once we said our vows.

But now you've passed on home
and walk with me no more.
I sit here all alone
'neath the willows on the shore.

The slightest breeze begins to stir
and lifts my soft grey hair.
With loving thought of what we were,
I sense you standing there.

Your presence keeps me company
and once again we're young.
I feel your arms embracing me
so gentle, yet so strong.

We are alone with love and laughter
within these willowed walls.
I will be yours forever after
and when our Father calls.

The morning sun breaks through the leaves.
Another day begins.
I pull out of my memories,
renewed from where I've been.

And so; old world, don't weep for me.
Don't worry for my sake.
For I have found quiet sanctity
beneath the willows by the lake.
