Trudging thru the desert, I must be on fire
Visions of my life what was my desire?
Must go on, hope could lie a little further
A stench of death, vultures searching another
My mind raced with all I had to live for
Praying, begging to know what was in store
Raging white sun wreaked havoc with my mind
Facing the worst, what of me would they find?
Passing time, songs came to me I sang, till mouth was dry
Missing my children grow seared my thoughts, I had to cry
Anguish tortured me, oh the opportunities I wasted away
Pleading for a second chance, just one more day?
Unconsciousness overtook me, beauty I began to see
Chains were loosed; my soul was set free
Is that my body on the desert floor without breath?
Suddenly incredible strength no longer afraid of death
A flood of faith from my Sunday morning teaching
I understood what my elders had long been preaching
Rejoicing with a newfound power I had won the war
A voice rang out “Behold I have so much more”
Angelic beings were ministering to my soul
Amazing faith washed over me, I savored the flow
I had been in the presence of the Almighty that lovely day
Never again would fear of death stand in my way
Yes, I have witnessed our promised land
Near death in a valley of scorch stained sand
A mere mortal was given a kings personal view
A profound faith transformed my soul anew
An angel carried me aloft, gently placing me by a sea
Peace was granted, grace set me free
Heaven could never have been imagined to be so grand
If it were not for a grain of hope there in the sand
I stand and fight for what I believe to be true
I fight this enemy so our families won’t have too
God is with our soldiers in this strange land
I’ve seen his Angels in this desert sand
God bless America
