This is a pep talk that we should all give ourselves, I think. My daughter is up for the "Youngbury Award for Outstanding Young Authors" today in school for a book that she wrote and assembled called, "Sabrina Saves the Day." I was thinking of her when I wrote this, early this morning.

-On Winning First Place-

Hold your head high, little Angel.
Your talent speaks for itself!
You know that your creations,
are better than the rest.
Others can attempt your feats,
but not with the magic you possess.
Just be patient, a while longer.
Your blue ribbon and standing ovation
will be bestowed upon you, soon.
No, winning isn't everything,
but a winning spirit is!
Do everything with a wild desire to win,
Set your standards as high as your goals
and never take "no" for an answer,
when persuing your heart's deepest passions.
But anytime you ever face defeat,
and walk away feeling unrewarded,
remember that the greatest reward,
is not a blue ribbon or golden plaque,
rather, it's the part of yourself
you put into your achievement,
and the small steps you took,
down the winding path,
toward your dream.
