I step outside myself
For this task that I must do
Memories and photographs
All that I have left of you
When I picked up the keys to your apartment
I knew what had to be done
Your life flashed before my eyes
Like things that move behind the sun
I opened the door with uncertainty
Not knowing where I should start
But knowing everything I look at
Will once again break my heart
Being in there with all of your things
Packing them up to put away
All I want to do is sit there
And wait for you today
Wait for you to walk in
To open up that door
Wait to hear your voice fill the room
Until reality shakes me to the core
That you are not coming back
You won’t be coming to see me here
You’re lost and gone forever
But your spirit lingers near
I feel your presence all around me
As I begin to go through your things
Moonlight floods through the windows
For a moment I am walking in your skin
Taking one last look at pieces of my life
Taking one last chance to say goodbye
To finally give in and let go
And return to home everlasting in the sky
And I step outside myself
To begin this task that I must do
Memories and photographs
All that we have left of you
I carefully pick up your things
To pack them up and put away
But all I really want to do
Is wait for you today
Wanting you to walk in
To open that closed, distant door
Wanting to hear your voice fill this room
Like so many times before
Brutal reality begins to sink in
Begins a stranglehold
Telling my heart that secret
I never wanted to be told
You are not coming back
You won’t be coming to see me here
You’re lost and gone forever
But your spirit lingers near
As I pack away the pieces of your life
I take this last chance to say goodbye
To finally give in and let you go
To return to home everlasting in the sky

It's very hard losing someone close to you, no matter how well you are prepared, or how much lead time you have to deal with it.

Well written on a difficult subject.

This is so painful feeling. My heart goes out to you. Hope you'll get over this soon. I know it is not easy.

A poem of great longing!
