I wanted to write a poem
That was so good
It would reach the heart
Infiltrate the mind
And touch the soul
Of everyone that read it
I wanted it to
Rock worlds
Influence outlooks and perspectives
Amaze, impress and inspire
To be the best thing written
Since the invention of the writing tool
The greatest words spoken
In the history of communication
So powerful it motivates
So thought provoking
It in and of itself
Becomes the topic of conversation
So deep it arouses emotions
In those that are numb
And/or devoid of sensational feeling
So magnificently beautiful
It becomes the bar all aspire to reach
I wanted to write a poem
That made jaws drop
And listeners stop
To think about
What was just mentally digested
Then need - yes, NEED
to go back read, re-read and meditate
In order to fully grasp
The meaning, complexity and depth
Of my words
Walking away
Feeling as if a meal
Complete with appetizer, desert, wine
And after dinner mint
Were just consumed
Full and satisfied
Yet anxiously awaiting the opportunity
To do it all over again
I wanted to write a poem
That would propel
The genre of poetry
To heightened levels
Forcing spoken word
Into mainstream society
A poem of such skill and accomplishment
It would produce the same effect
LL Cool J and Run DMC
Had on rap music
Charlie Parker on jazz
Michael Jackson on pop
And James Brown on soul
IE., given it's own category
Placed in a class all by itself
I would be spoken of in comparisons
With Maya Angelou or Nikki Giovanni
Considered and defined as the
Consummate laureate
Referred to by critics
Using adjectives synonymous to
Talented, riveting,
Gifted and unparalleled
Phrases like one of a kind
A poets poet
A literary savant
Would become routine
I wanted to write a poem
Of such greatness and brilliance
It caused my name
To become a household word
I wanted to write a poem....
But I could not

This is another excellent write! You might like my poem, "Epiphany Unveiled." It is also about writer's block, which I think we can all relate to! This was a very good poem. I really liked it.

You did write a poem to be talked about while talking about it--quite a feat. Very well done indeed. J.
