Friends To The End

We met when we were only five
In a schoolyard with other children all around,
Even then, I knew deep inside
That it was a unique friendship I'd found.

We were so innocent and naive
Believing that the world was filled with happiness,
We never thought about the reality
Our imaginations were all we needed to possess.

We made believed we were sisters
With magical powers in our tiny rings,
With tropical pets and a treehouse
And numerous other luxurious, special things.

As we grew so did our friendship
The love for each other was so incredibly strong,
Even though we joked about our hatred
We knew that, in reality, we were wrong.

We experimented with different styles
Trying to find out exactly who we were,
We created our own little world
Leaving the rest of the Earth to be a blur.

We created tastes in boys too
And I still laugh about the mayhem that created,
When I sit back and reminisce
I laugh about all the boys that we've dated.

We moved onto high school nervously
Sticking by each other, needing that familiar face,
Needing someone there to talk to
When everything in our world was out of place.

We were ridiculed for being so close
For being outsiders and different from the crowd,
But it never really bothered me at all
Because, throughout all the torment, I was still proud.

I had a crazy individual as a friend
Someone I knew and knew me throughout,
And whenever we talked babble
The other would know what we were on about!

We created nicknames for each other
Like the eccentric "Pibble" and "Pob",
Looking back on those two names
I understand why people thought we were odd.

We grew into two young ladies
We developed our own styles and tastes,
And even though our opinions were different
We never left our friendship to waste.

We remained strong and loyal to each other
Even though we were sometimes driven round the bend,
We realised inside we needed each other
And would do until the very ultimate end.

We had our little arguments
But they never seemed to last very long,
After about a week, we'd make up
Telling the other that we were wrong.

We've told each other our secrets
And our dreams and ambitions that we own,
Up until the end of time I know
That, no matter what, I will never be alone.

Throughout the years, our bond has grown
Although we permanently argue, we're still friends,
We still stick by each other's side
And I plan to stick by yours until the very end.

Dedicated to my friend, Rhian. Another ten years maybe, Rhi? If we don't kill each other by then!
