In honour of this past 'Earth Day'!

Well, here I am alone again on the shores of Glennifer Lake
And only footprints will I leave, and only deep breaths will I take
It makes me mad to see that man's as stupid as he is
He treats each thing upon the earth like it was only his

He cannot bear to learn to share and leave the world alone
He acts as though all knowing God made earth for him to own
His only joy is to destroy each thing he can't possess
And that is why our once proud earth is now in such a mess

I only wish that more of us could understand earth's plight
And do the things we ought to do to set our wrongs all right
Like leaving only footprints here, and taking only breaths
Instead of dooming other things to early senseless deaths!

John, this is a wonderful poem and so very true! When I'm away from the city, I try to picture what the earth looked like before man came to piliage and plunder. When I open my eyes, it makes me want to cry...

Well said, John.
It all comes down to personal responsibility, which seems to be lost on our society these days. So sad.
