I saw a shadow by the long limbed tree,

And I thought it was a man,

But it was you-

And you aren’t allowed here-

And I wondered how you came to be hidden

Among my untrusting trees.

And I reached out to claw your face,

And leave the marks you had once

Carved on my soul.

But then,

I saw you weren’t real,

And the shadow faded,

And my tree reached down to comfort me,

And I wept,

Then used its leaves to wipe away the tears,

And used its rough bark to scrape away

The last memory of you from my soul…
