I woke up this morning, thinking about you.
Where have you gone?
How have you been?
I miss your eyes.
So bright.
So clear.
So full of hope and anticipation.
Your energy.
You were going to conquer the world.
I try to recall the last time I saw you.
It’s been so long.
So much has happened.
Was it one of the times
You carried another friend to rest?
Or that moment you witnessed the first breath
Of your own legacy?
We must have been having fun in those days.
But like the man says,
If you remember, you weren’t there.
One day
I looked around and you were gone.
And that never really occurred to me
Until this morning.
And I missed you.
Then I wiped away the sleep and the fog,
And for just a second,
I thought I caught a glimpse of you,
Looking back at me.
You’re still in there.

I particularly like this line: "I looked around and you were gone.
And that never really occurred to me
Until this morning," although I enjoyed the entire piece. Every once in a while, ya run across a piece of writing that has a pulse of its own -- this is one of them.

Beautiful! This reminds me of the song 'I know you're out there somewhere' by the Moody Blues. Happy New Year Rick! Janet

Oops, I Lost my Sense of Humor by Lois Santalo

Death came for me in 2001 in the form of pancreatic cancer. Doctors advised against surgery due to my age--but I felt that even an extra year or two is worth fighting and suffering..
