Friends ask,
“Why walk with the dead?”
Why go where ever I’m led?
Guess they have never loved and lost,
Poised no regrets,
Held no slowly dying leaf
In their hand like me…

Who grieves so deep,
And mourns what I lost,
Give no thought to what it cost
Them to leave me behind,
To weep in the dark of night…

Then I must rise in my dreams,
And go to the secret places of the dead,
Trace their names carved in stone,
And not feel so damn alone…

Rise up!
And walk with me a spell…
Come feel through me,
This winter’s breeze,
Come sweat with summer’s heat.
Come cry with me
One last regret,
Tell me what I need to hear!

You will not frighten me,
I have no hope,
And fewer fears-
Touch your lovely hand
To mine,
Rise and walk the valley
Of our youth…

I do not fear,
Nor turn away,
I’ve lived in death every day,
No love on earth
Could call me away…

Let me lie here
By your side
Until some poor aching heart
May call to me,
“Come walk with me!”
and I will shake the ashes
from my hair,
and go with them
where ever they may lead-

And finally find the peace I seek…

Those who have lost a loved one can surely relate. But don't let the dead bury you.
This is truly beautiful...but the living must go on. Sometimes we wonder, how!
