As darkness envelopes the desert...
the stars twinkle in the twilight
the moon is a mere crescent
the light is surreal

What travels the desert floor?

the sand, a oasis, a menagerie
moving swiftly, shifting in relief

As darkness announces the night...
the creatures fly, the beasts crawl
the human eye cannot see
a light twisted, bent into disarray
leaving behind the discordant ray

As darkness envelopes the heart...
feelings are numbed
midnight chimes for lovers
sex and murder in disguise
love and hatred are their masks

What actors play life’s game?

As lovers embrace and killers slay...
sexual, violent, passionate acts
the sand shifts like the ghosts
longing for something to feel
awaiting the rising sun

the stars, the moon, the sun
hang in the sky’s harsh light
the black night approaches
as red orb sinks out of sight
the light is surreal

As the darkness envelopes us...
