old school
I am old school
cut teeth on a profession
that recognized not women
scratched my way until I was seen
heard
integrity, honesty, my mantra
but
now it seems
I’ve piled my eggs in a basket
that has broken
that is sagging that looks to dissolve
before my eyes
and
then
what shall become of me
do I yet have the gumption the moxie the will
to forge on
I am not the same
as
I was at twenty
I am not the warrior I once was
I fear that I have beat the horse
to death
there is no life breath to my song
my only desire of late
is
the
page
quill in hand is where I find satisfaction
not in the toil and grunge
the mire of life struggle
and a sadness creeps upon me
a cringing
that says ‘you my dear are washed up
you my dear just don’t care’
and I scream but there are mouths to feed
tuitions yet to be paid
life
requires
to be met
and I have no stomach for it
can I not just cradle myself in selfish
pursuits
just this once just this now
be
what I want?
it is not so
cannot be thus
with broken heart I retire
but know this
my heart is here this parchment this moment
as I take up my sword yet again
in the jungle
that
is
life

Ha! (as you have so often said so well).. 'gumption.. moxie.. will"??? You? Why, Josie, I thought those were your middle names.. Worry not, for you are a red balloon filled with talent and gusto.. and NOONE here has anything sharp to burst you.. My god, woman, but you are a fantastic "self-examiner".. a lesson to us all.. Great job. katy.

Josie,
Lass, 'tis often in our sincere and earnest and passionate pursuit of self, when imbued in the very same passion, that a release of fragrance from our very soul takes place and issues forth, showering all those about us in good, as a wind and hail of fire and fine, As as welcomed and wet shower in summertime, it refreshes, bathes, cools the soul of those about us in good. Good write young lady, oh, the sword remains not heavy when passion remaineth her wings.

You have your pulse on the heart of humanity Josie, I believe your pen will get you what you want one day. You have the power to hang in, you are still young enough , but yes, some of the vigor is gone the motivation to keep going needs renewing,I hope you get some help!We all need co-pilot's when we want to fly high...

Josie, I've never read anything that so aptly reflected the deepest feelings of my heart. This is exceptional, only someone who has lived this can really understand the depths of it. Thank you for sharing your heart with me.

Very good write! I totally relate and I really like the last part, "my heart is here this parchment this moment
as I take up my sword yet again
in the jungle
that is life." Thank you for sharing this!
