2003, Wanda L. Harrell

When you and I were we,

Any old song was a symphony

And a small candle in the dark night

Radiated with a brilliant light.

When you and I were we,

I looked at everything differently.

There were those loving games we’d play,

Our love creating sunshine on a dreary, rainy day.

Inexpensive wine was not plain,

We savored it like expensive champagne,

And ordinary daisies without flare

Were bouquets of lavender roses rare.

O’, when you and I were we,

Love colored everything in my world vividly.

Without you, I see everything as it really exists,

And I have to admit I really do miss

The days when you and I were we.
