Vigil

Across a curved continuum
light becomes your envoy.
My eyes distill your essence--
Electric pulses in my brain
create an image that dominates
the tissues of reason.

You find my hidden heart,
within its warding walls.
I am helpless, captive--
tortured by hope.
You stir the ashes of longing,
A small fire is kindeled
on the battlements
where proud banners
ride the winds of change
I am the eternal sentinel,
Guarding a private darkness.

I have waited ages for the dawn—
for the daystar—
and here you are—
passing the gates of my soul.
