Whenever I see our mother’s eyes
Turn cloudy and distant gray
Whenever I see her try not to break down
See her try to find a way
I think of your angel hovering
Or perhaps standing nearby
And I wonder, I can’t help but wonder
I wonder if angels cry
Whenever I see our father
Fight to keep steady and strong
Knowing he can’t keep it up forever
Maybe not even for very long
And I think of you lingering
Or keeping watch nearby
And I wonder, how I do wonder
I wonder if angels cry
When I see our brother’s gaze
Turn to a thousand yard stare
Biting his lip to keep control
Looking to see if anyone’s there
I think of you coming around
Keeping guard nearby
And I wonder, I really wonder
I wonder if angels cry
When I hear our sisters telling stories
About things you used to do
I see it hit them like a ton of bricks
Everyone’s here but you
I think of you hovering above us
Perhaps standing somewhere nearby
And I can’t help but wonder
I do wonder if angels cry
When you see us going on
But sometimes struggle to make it through the day
Do you wish you could reach out to us
And help us find a way
When you hear the sobbing through the door
As someone drowns in tears
Do you long for the day you could take us in your arms
And make the bad stuff disappear
I wonder if you hover
And keep your watch nearby
I wonder if you linger
Down from your home within the sky
I wonder if you come around
And wish the past was but a lie
I wonder if you alight on snow-driven wings
I wonder if you wonder how you might change things
I wonder if you hover
And keep your watch nearby
I wonder if you linger
Come down from your home in the sky
I wonder if you come around
And I wonder, how I wonder
I wonder if angels cry
