The life Iíve chose from a bottle flows
I live from drink to drink
A sad refrain so the story goes
Yet not as bad as youíd think

A fifth of gin is my best friend
When the shakes I try to fight
Come 6pm Iím past out again
But at least I sleep the night

Ainít much truth in Absolute
Jack Daniels is more my speed
It goes down smooth as my pain it sooths
Makes my life seem so complete

Oblivion is the destiny that draws me ever near
With drink in hand I retreat again to the place that I call here
Friends all say Ė Canít go on this way living life upon the street
I chuckle-snort and with a toothless grin stumble to my feet

I raise my glass and say out loud, come celebrate my defeat
My wasted life, no kids, no wife, no future that I can see
With beer or gin, to wash away my sorrows and my sins
And when itís right I end the night, just good ole Jack and Me

Cute poem, sad waste of a life. Happens to many when they internalize instead of living life. Good work.

Indeed, one of the saddest writes I've read.. guess it goes hand in hand with the last one I posted.. The Last Drink.

Excellent portrayal of an alcoholics life. Hope its a fictional account.

Sad and honest write. Hope this is just fictional, for I know you write short stories too.

How sad, but words that need to be heard! Thank you, Michael.

well done!... there may be a small inconsistency, in the fact, that a homeless drunk could not indulge in the luxury of jack & absolute but rather ripple...
