i'm fixin' to be 44 years old on june
26th...this reflective poem came to
mind...i hope you enjoy
----------------------------------------------------------------
why does everyone
automatically
assume
that since someone's
old
they can't do that
"you're too old"
to be climbin mountains
runnin marathons
skydivin
just because they're old
doesn't mean
they're dead
or that they should
be wasting away
in some "old folk's home"
forgotten
in some smelly dank
lonely room
whatever happened to
respect
for your elders
as i'm gettin older
i could stand
some new experiences
some excitement
in my life
maybe not runnin marathons
or skydivin
not with these
ol' arthritic bones
there are still things
i wanna do
before i check out
permanently
from life
go on an african safari
meet the maasai
go to alaska
see the northern lights
for real
have a book (or two)
of my poems
published
pet a cheetah
'cause i love their
sweet, sad, tearlined faces
ride in a helicopter
learn swahili and japanese
go to new york city
to see a broadway play
"lion king" would be awesome
i wanna see my dreams
come to pass
gotta lotta livin
left to do
no matter how old i get
let me live my life
and enjoy
the time God's given me
and follow my dreams

Hi Karla. I am almost the same age and I am more active than I used to be years ago. Sure there are things that we cannot do that easily anymore. But as long as we do what we want to and stick to it don't regret it - we are alive. Your youth will never die if you won't let it happen. Move on. Love. S.

Hi Karla,
Being able to age, is without
a doubt a wonderful gift from God...
I feel so blest when my
birthday rolls around...
For I have completed yet
another year on earth...
So many leave this world
at such a young age...

Happy early birthday, to
you and Karen...

Hugs,
Trixie :)

Karla this is a good account of the dreams you have, and your feelings on aging, yes you are young, but each decade brings new awarness of how quickly age comes upon us;-)Keep dreaming they do come true;-)

Oh yeah...just remember your words when you get really old for real and accomplish some of your goals...you are not old at all and just because we suffer from the ravages of a little time does not mean we stop hoping, and dreaming, and wishing, and setting goals for ourselves. It does not mean we stop being beautiful inside and out as you are. Just you wait til your dedication comes out and then tell me you are old.
Always your California friend,
Amor

Karla, please, don't say 44 is old. Dang, I've got shoes older than you.. I'm old, and I know it. But you aren't old till you say you are. Do everything you want, God only allows us one ticket, use it.. God Bless

Sweetie, you are never to old for anything. I started Karate when I was fifty something. I learned to fly an airplane when I was thirty something pushing forty something. [won't tell you everything-smiles]

Never stop doing. It is death.

Like the work.

I agree with you! My son and I had this very conversation just the other day. He asked me if I wanted to go deep sea fishing,, then he said don't worry Mom I see 'old' people doing it all the time! Now I'm only 44 myself,,,and I just don't consider that old, but apparently a 23 year old does! lol Chase those dreams Karla,,,and I hope you catch them all! Lisa

Age is a matter of mind. Sure the body ages, but it ages a lot faster if your thinking old. Keep young! You have the secret. Keep dreaming and knowing your reaching for your dreams.

i like your poem, karla; we all have things we would like to do before we get too old to enjoy them (but there are older people than us who are doing that very thing, and they deserve our respect and admiration! like bob hope, as an example..100 and still going strong; maybe not as quick as he once was, but he is still alive and is able to communicate!). or our grandma. to the end, she was a spunky, determined old gal, and she wouldn't take nothing from anybody! you know how stubborn she was....with everything she's had to go through in her life, it's a wonder she lived as long as she did! LOL i certainly have dreams myself (go back to the grand ole opry or go to fan fair, go to alaska and see the northern lights, or maybe a polar bear or two, or to africa, pet a cheetah and see the maasai, go to branson, missouri, or just travel the country without a worry or a care in the world, with you by my side)! what better way than to achieve dreams with the person you love the most, huh???? :) and i love the pic, reminds me so much of kentucky or tennessee; sure do miss that lovely part of the country! (((HUGS))) and love, your twink, karen lynn. :)
