He made a vow, said he'd return to me
With kisses tender we did agree
to be in each other's arms eternally
meeting again on next December three

Off he went, he waved goodby, as I
cringed that moment with a chilling sigh
for I did hear strange whisperings near
echo's of moaning and crying in my ear

Long did I wait for his return, till
of his coming that morrow, I did learn
Glad to know this, I breathed a sigh
He'd keep his vow! He didn't lie!

But after midnight there came a chill
My room and heart it indeed did fill
Its source a puzzle I could not find
till cold ghostly lips pressed upon mine!

He kept his vow!

Yikes! From passion, to departure, to waiting, to knowing, and that final kiss, almost chilling as it signifies the loss of all, Gwen! Just read your bio, it reads alot like me, aching to always show the reader the next hill, the further flight of a crow or the feel of traveling the path with an open mind and inquisitive soul! :) You have a lovely soul, Gwen.

A haunting write, Gwen. So well done. Love comes in so many forms and it can only be measured in its intensity and passion when it is relayed in dreams and thoughts.

Gwen, you have done a very good job with this one. The last line is a total surprise. Very few poets in English used this technique, known as bathos, the most famous one of them is John Donne. Romance + wit!!

Love from the other side? He really did keep his vow Gwen. Isn't it stange though sometimes when we make a promise to someone or they make one to us ... we get a funny feeling inside our hearts ... like the promise will never be kept. But maybe it is kept ... but we are just not open enough to know it. What a wonderful poem! Bill

Best to keep your electric blanket set on high for his return visit .If he gives you
cold lips you give him the cold shoulder.
Spooky yarn....made me smile.
