These hands hold the traces...laced scars of my craft
Lines criss crossed...yet palms an old draft
My womanly rough as a man's.....
That once used the hammer, and anvil with plan

Blood mixed with metal, polish, and grain
Focused on process.....ignoring the pain
Acid, and flux, the stench of propane
Intent on creation...of silver domains

From mind comes the thoughts, and substance to hold
As metals are torched, and hammered to mold
A force now entwined, from metal.....and mind
As a gift of adornment....the soul of design

I miss those days........ I gave to my art
My pieces...most sold....yet still hold my heart
I mourn them like children, that I hardly knew
And yet they are essence and truth

Lady A

I have turned to poetry over the past few yrs as a creative outlet since I no longer smith due to asthma. But poety is fun, and I do love I don't need any tools to create a poem, just my mind and fingers...and poetry will never endanger my health....maybe my sanity, but never health! LOL

Your numerous talents leave no room for doubt and I am glad that you did take up poetry then...for you do have the knack to excel in any kind of art. Would love it if you hurried back.

I can imagine and feel how much you miss your craft. And I am sure you were very good at it. But you are also exceptional with your poems.

I bet you have some AWESOME jewelry! This is beauty... I just wanted to hug ya! Your words do things for a reader's soul. Every woman fears this. And WHY exactly? Was it society or is it just in the genes to feel this way?

Thanking you,

Enjoyed the read. So sorry you can't do that any more. Asthma...never knew you could take a deep, deep breath, and not get any air. Feel for you. Been there.

Wonderful! Sacrifices made to the "children/creations" that you love! Yes, things that we create are truly born of us, Jewelry, art, poems, etc.! You've expressed your love of craft, wonderfully! I enjoyed and appreciated this poem, very much! Raising my glass. Here's to you, Lady A!

Anita, thank you for choosing this topic.
As a fashion designer, I almost always felt about my creations in the exact way you do..
How can I thank you for explaining to the world that we put a portion of our soul n each piece of art.
Lovely, Anita!
