Clouds gather, rumble ominously,

And inside I feel restless and hot-

My skin burning, my mouth dry,

And lightning flashes in the sky…

The wind gathers and with a mighty roar

Flings open the hard wood door-

Banging it back against the wall like a knock

And the crack of lightning sends a shock,

Of electricity running through my veins-

I step forward not heeding the warning

Of those who claim to love me...

Yet would see me tied to this house of stone

Instead of dancing in the rain alone…

I feel the tiniest rain drops blown in by the wind,

And I am lost as they sizzle when they land on my skin…

So hot I burn them dry,

And lightning cracks in the too dark sky-

And beckons with a glowing finger

Pointing out the way it needs me to go-

And like a child of the elements I run

And find myself amidst the storm…

My feet touching the damp earth

Feeling the rain pour down my back

I lift my arms to the sky

And open my mouth wide

Trying to drink it dry...

The storm laughs at my foolish youth

Plays a song only I can hear...

The drums of the earth beat out their tune

As the lightning cracks in the sky

My soul screams out…dance or die!

My feet forget to touch at all

And I am lifted up and carried off into the sky...

We dance the storm and I

With nature’s fury playing the tune,

And the dark clouds rumbling with satisfaction,

that there is one who can feel such glory!

The rain pours through me

And drains out my soul

Am I the child you use to know?

Have I changed so much?

Sorry my love.

But when the sky calls my name

I feel no shame.

When I rip off the burdens of my life

And run to dance in the rain.

Nothing can stop me,

The power of the storm is stronger

Than my will,

Stronger than even your love for me,

For its not your name I hear

When the lightning screams out its rage,

And the rain pours down to the earth…

Ah, my beloved, my sweet love,

You cannot hold me to your earth-

You will never stop the Storm Child

From dancing in the rain…

Retta!! I love this! And the title, I was swooning just from the sense it gave me, but even better is coming outside to see you dance and laugh and play in Mother Storm!! This is my favorite of yours, it rocks, and pounds, it exudes wildness and devil-may-care attitude, it is the storm of Life brought to to the blank page with understanding and elan! Bravo! :)

Dear Stormchild: You capture the love of wild storminess that only some children feel, that draws them to venture into the deluge among paths of massive electric charges, unaware or uncaring that randomness occasionally means right here.
A terrific ode to that spirit. Salud.
