She was working as a waitress,
In a small downtown café
Trying hard to raise a son,
On tips and little pay

Even though the times were hard for her,
She wanted no one else to know
And proud, she kept it to herself,
And refused to let it show

And then one Friday morning,
He walked in and took a seat
She had seen him come here often,
The kind of man she’d like to meet

She walked over to his table,
And said, “ What can I do for you?”
He said, “I’d like a cup of coffee,
And a little talk with you”

Shocked, she looked into his eyes,
And he gave her a smile
She said, “I’m kind of busy now,
And I will be for a while.”

She turned and walked away from him,
So her tears he wouldn’t see
He got up and left but left a note that said,
“Talk to me”

That night before she goes to bed,
She reads the note again
She’s been hurt once too often,
She never wants to hurt again

But at night when you are all alone,
Beds a lonely place to be
And she can almost hear his sweet voice say to her,
“Talk to me”

That next morning she was waiting,
When he walked in and took his chair
She wore her special perfume,
And a ribbon in her hair

As she brought his check out to him,
She smiled and said, “The coffee’s free”
And on the check a little note she wrote to him,
“Talk to me”

P.S. This also reminds me one of Jack Nicholson's movie, "As Good As It Gets". Sometimes little notes do wonders when the person is too shy to talk.
