Days Like This

On days like this
moments of repose
are sullen & quiet
left yearning my soul
longs for a time
somewhere long ago
where only love mattered
when love was my goal.

In times when my soul
encouraged my dreams
rainbows were daily
clouds floated and filled
of ice cream & cotton candy
reaching to grasp stars
playing and laughter
reigned supreme.

On days such as now
I recall deep inside
memos to self
emotions that hide
feelings that once
existed and surfed
remain silently hidden
examining new turf.

On days like this
recalling visions Iíve held
lives that Iíve touched
where my father once dwelled
beheld in strong hands
that smile upon his face
memories lie in shadow
existing now in Godís Grace.

Holidays like this
I gaze from behind green eyes
wondering what if ?
Does love pass me by?
I wonder about dreams that
I share with my son
exuberant in youth
his life hardly begun.

On Summer days like this
I recall girlhood schemes
dates with girlfriends,
clothes & new men on the scene
secrets and rendezvous peppered
lives solely existing for fun;
unaware of biological clocks
cast upon time, the treadmill begun.

On days like this
in moments when my soul
searches for peace
my life lies uncomposed
I relish life's flavors consumed;
jelly apples, candy treats
and clouds of ice cream,
served in heaping portions
on days like this
when I remember my dreams.
