Choking hell,
smoke fell from Lucifers left hand,
(can’t understand what strand of brain
dare rain this flame
upon our Yule tide bell).
Ah well...
Hell will not suffocate,
(or our fate incinerate)
this will of ours,
(that flowers beneath the ash).
Flashing orange cinders fly t’ward our face,
an arsonists disgrace, bears trace, on day of Christ.
Not once, not twice, or even thrice,
but more and more than that,
he spat his evil furnace on our heads,
(as our children slept in beds,
just waiting for Saint Nick).
So quick, he scorched, and torched ,
(for cunning is his wick).
Over a hundred homes are lost.
Evacuations still are tossed
t'ward the local folk,
( engrossed by festive kick.)
Flagrant flames, thick white smoke,
Christmas time...(what a joke)!
We are in my tiny home,
encircled by a smokey dome,
ash is raining on our air,
my eyes are stinging from their flare.
Our pet ( banished Christmas day ,)
is back inside where smoke can’t prey.
Pollutions’ scale has lost its eye…
our bush creatures doomed to die.
Devils hand did all of this,
evil chokes our Christmas bliss.
Sirens ringing in our ears,
'Merry Christmas'disappears into the smog of hell...
Ah well,
another year begins with sins.
Cinders tumble, and we fumble to hold power,
they won’t beat us, or defeat us with their heat,
for we fight tonight ,as every hour.
Scorch us not with hot you devil man,
we can catch you ,yes we can,
Lucifer ...you lose again.
Ruin Christmas? pretty close,
but ruin us? you can’t boast.
We will beat you...douse your flames,
we will snuff you... wet your games.
Go to hell you bug of fire,
you won’t make our Yule time dire,
we’ll grow stronger by your fire,
we will rise up high and higher.
We’re the phoenix ,
you’re the ash,
we’re the winners,
you’re the trash,
we will build it all again,
we will be much better then.
Smoke’s around me,I don’t mind,
yes it’s burnt our outer rind,
dosen't beat us...cannot,won't,
quit a fight? our firemen don't.
Merry Christmas,
happy cheer,
Devil's lost...(disappear.)
Happy new year !(smoke and all)
we are standing,
we ...won't...FALL.

Kay I hope you sent thid to the editor of the local newspaper of that town. It would be a classic. Your ability to capture it in such a marvelous exciting way is a credit to your poetic nature!

The devastation of fire is horrendous. Inside, outside, wherever. We are battling our forest fires right now, and hundreds of home have been lost. It will take centuries for the land to recover the forests that have been lost. Well done work. It couldn't be easy writing it.

Leland,
It happened around Sydney and near where i lived 'Rosemeadow',the fires were deliberately started ash filled the air all over Christmas hundreds of homes were lost.It was just awful. The fire fighters were heros and the Australian spirit reigned victorious and rose magnificently to win against the odds.
