Reaction to French resentment.

There are 60,486 American dead of World wars I and II in France. Recent graffiti on a monument to WWI dead near Calais Framce: "Dig up your trash, it's spoiling our land"

                          Viva la Differences

A dear friend of mine is dead.
He wasn't elderly.
Gone off to war, brash and bold,
He fell at Normandy.

He lies beneath the crosses
That mark our yong men's fate,
Sacrificed to the grim gods
Of everlasting hate.

Just a schoolboy pal of mine,
We made a lively pair.
Would that I could bring him home,
For we're not welcome there.

How sad a testament to our brave heroes who fought for freedom in other countries. What on earth is wrong with the world? Your poem was sad and heartfelt, and very well written!
