I am nothing:
Nothing in my dreams,
Nothing in my splendour;
And out of nothing, I am remade.

SPINDRIFTING

I am featherblown in hallucinating winds
Faltering in flight
With falling dream obsessions:
The spirit of night possesses me;
Taking me, tying my hands,
But gently, so gently
Sliding its phallocentric idiocies
Into my ruby stigmata,
Taking me down
Down into the netherworld
Into the lightless void;
And I am Innanna,
Sacrificing my eyes for love.

Dull jewels I have traded
Dull jewels
And the tawdry world above.

I drink this pain to the memory of love,
Prostrate my pale body
On the altar of shadows:
Let myself be consumed by the black fire.
There is nothing I will not do now,
Nothing, now that I know what I know.

I have seen too many roads,
Bled my feet on tarmac and gravel
Bled my dreams along coastal tracks
Broken my fingers and teeth on overhanging cliffs;
And never, never did I dream of turning back.

Underground, denuded of mirrors and jewels,
I am nothing:
Nothing in my dreams,
Nothing in my splendour;
And out of nothing, I am remade.
