The Memory Of Love

The Memory of Love

In winter,
My smile begins to fade,
As the shadow in the garden
Grows longer,
My inner core grows colder and darker
Until only my tears remain.

It is folly I know,
To believe in love once more,
Always wondering how a man
Can possess such guile…
To steal what little life,
I have left…

His love is a dagger in my heart,
That flashes like lightening,
Even when we are apart…
Mile upon mile,
Yet the distance means nothing,
For like a wizard,
He casts his spell,
With sweet words,
And I am doomed to live in this hell,
That is his love for me…

How much he does not know,
How many times I held the blade
To my throat,
Finding life a trial,
Wanting only to let go…
His love a jade stone,
That glows so green with envy,
That we can never be more,
Than friends who love,
But will never touch,
Never embrace,
Never taste the sweetness,
That true love brings…

In the distant dawn,
I will rise one day,
To find him gone,
Yet cherish the memory,
Of a lovely man,
Who claimed to see,
And love the beauty he found in me…

Perhaps we forget that nothing lasts forever, minute by minute we're changing. Enjoy love while it's yours, take comfort in love's memory when/if it fades. Great poem, Reindeer!

Reindeer,
I like your use of winter as the backdrop for this poem--depicting the seperation from love as winter is often associated with. Nice work. J.

Oh, Retta...the poignancy and unmitigated yearning in your piece pierces the heart and mind. Sweet Reindeer, never put your hand on that blade, again. The uniqueness of you must stay until your time comes. Think, ponder write, and live. :)

Retta, first of all the picture is outstanding! If you mind let me know, but I have saved it into my picture gallery to use later. Sometimes seems impossible, to make a dream come true. Isn't that where dreams come from though, the impossible? In friendship. Bill
