"on the day that your mentality decides to try and catch up with your biology, come 'round. because i want the one i can't have, and it's driving me mad, it's all over, all over my face"
--s. p. morrissey
i am still missing pieces
of the puzzle you delivered
i've arranged and rearranged it
in my solitary downtime
took the time to think about it
work and rework all the angles
so it's been sitting, on a table
until i decide to resurrect it.
i still am without jazz,
without white teeth, without blue eyes
without those hands, one might call rugged, the same i know you once despised (do you still now)
and what of books, bedsides, barstools
and of all the times i'd tried--
i'm positive, it's out there,
there's just not been a reply-
the silence creeps like slumber,
the groggy, fading dream
the gaping holes that follow
are ugly and obscene
am i wrong to writhe in wanting
am i wrong to twist with time
beneath it all, my back is broken
and i'm still left behind.
