the distance is starting
to seep in and break
me down-- forgot how
i liked having you around
i thought i'd start writing
letters, to keep you up to speed
while you are gone
i'm sitting at the chop 'n' block
in mission hill,
waiting for bands i've never heard
to play
for friends to show up
it's 9:15 on a friday
the bar is too brightly lit
and the sox are on
the inbetween music
reminds me of johnathan richmond
and someone else, i can't
put my finger on
this place is no bukowski's
then again, i guess nowhere else
quite is
but i heard a rumor,
that the first band is
going to play a set
of joy division covers...

As long as it is not a Yankees game, you'll be just fine.
