You come to me,
But I can’t see,
What it is,
You want me to be…
Can’t believe the words you speak,
And you don’t hear me baby,
When I whisper,
Just how much,
I care for you.
What our friendship
Means to me…

Now my world is cast in darkness,
Your light shines no more,
I have shadowed your soul,
And you are no longer
The man I use to know…

You can’t seem to see-
That what I am is real,
All my thoughts are sealed,
So deep within,
That they cannot be revealed…

So you come to me,
Like a shadow in the night,
A dream only I can see,
A man I want to believe,
Is real and whole,
But I just don’t know,
If I can believe,
All the things you say,
For I have learned to well,
The stories men tell,
And watch them leave,
After making me believe
All their lies,
Told in such an earnest voice,
Leaving me no choice,
But to love and later burn
With such passion
All that I have learned…

Scored those words with white hot steel,
Carving the truth for all to see,
How could you love someone like me?
My hands bloody and scarred,
My heart blackened and hard…
What is it you see?
Why be a friend to one such as me?

So I hide,
And bide my time,
Thinking of the words you say,
Maybe I’ll believe them someday,
But I can’t just now,
The past still burns most foul,
Empty letters with lies,
The tears falling from my eyes,
As I hear the words you say,
And cannot tell you,
I love you today,
Maybe never will,
But God how the memory
Of your weeping haunts me still….
