Blood On The Moon

“Blood on the Moon tonight…”
My brother warns me,
“Bad omen that”, he says,
As he walks away…
He looks at me sadly,
Asks if I am okay…
But there is nothing to say,
There is blood on the moon,
And only I know why…

In the shadows the wolves cry,
And the hawk screams his hunting song,
As I wonder what it is that feels so wrong,
Questioning this thing I do,
Questioning the love I have for you…

The shadows are walking tonight,
I see them in the bloody moonlight,
Looking up I see her red tears,
And my heart is filled with fear…

Shadows come into my heart,
And I am torn between the two,
Knowing there are things,
I must do…

I have a friend,
Who can see within,
All her words have always been true ,
And my friend,
She touched you-

Saw the visions of things to come,
Actions which you haven’t yet done,
Breathes in your air,
And I wonder if I dare,
Not to listen to her words,
Ignore the sights she sees,
With a warning she decrees-

“This one is not right for you,
You have no idea,
Of what it is you do…
This one my friend,
Is going to hurt you…”

But my heart is full at last,
Finally letting go of the past,
And I wonder if what she sees is true ,
What is it baby,
That she sees in you?

My heart is filled with fear,
Until you draw near,
Then I feel such love,
Feel like flying above
The clouds in glee,
How is it you are not right for me?

Ah,
But that bloody moon betrays my thoughts,
Reminding me of all I was taught,
“Listen well to the stories the earth tells,
And live your life well…”

I listen with my heart,
And dare to believe
In the love you have for me…
Yes, I know we will one day part,
But my love,
I shall have you always in my heart…

Blood on the moon be damned,
For I choose to love this man,
Despite all the omens and warnings,
Despite the fact that he is so charming,
Am I fool I wonder today?
But there is no other way…

My heart has found a home,
And though the shadows roam tonight,
I shall not fear the sight,
But merely tell you one more time,
I am so glad that you are mine…

Excellent write Retta ... So nice to read this ... Wonderful write giving both love and friendship ... I understand the friendship in this write. I loved that character. As a good friend its his duty to warn ... And the love will never understand their heart. That is love ... All are right when they think from the position they stand. So beautifull written. Friends Question and i belive true friendship have the right to question.
This write made me think .... each and every line you wrote from the heart. So beautiful. Keep it up.

Excellent, Retta.
Don't know if this is fiction--suspect not. Omens and fortune tellers are a shifty lot.
Best live life how you want it to be,
A diviner's just as faulty as you and me.
Folklore's intriguing, it always has been,
But life worth living's a risk, not a sin.
Best regards,
Leland
