Quite some years ago I gave my heart away
For a long time I did without I just was cold
Emotions were suppressed never on display
I went along doing only what I was told

I was existing in an ocean of dark despairs
Adrift on the stormy waters we call life
Rarely sleeping because of the nightmares
Surviving but not living through the strife

Pain and sorrow were my daily companions
Constantly searching for a stable rudder
Never able to find a peach only lemons
Growing ever older and so much angrier

Then one day my face began deforming
Into something long since forgotten
I looked and found myself grinning
The world was bright and not rotten

Through my body blood was coursing
What miracle was this? A new heart
Emotions flooded in, tears began running
What had I done to deserve a new start?

My heart had really been there all along
It just took you to start it beating again
Once more it is pumping hard and strong
What I am feeling is very hard to explain

But you restored me to the land of the living
Your love will forever bring me happiness
Everyday I must thank you for your giving
And for allowing me your love to possess
