The Burden
They told me my father was dying,
but would not die if I believed
that God would heal him.
His life was in my hands.
Negative thoughts, they said,
would jinx the deal.
Heavy burden for the child trapped
in confusion, wedged
between walls of faith and fear.
I questioned. He died.
The stone of guilt lodged in my heart.
