The cuts were wide open..
Blood poured fresh..
From long open wounds..
The physical scars have healed
lightened with each passing year..
The scars on my heart grew larger
as the years went on..
A memory string to you..
My mother..
A blood thirsty bond..
I thought all love had died
with my heart..
Taken when I was a child..
Vanquished with my
childish hopes
childish dreams..
Dreams of making you love
someone like me.
The wounds opened
Bled for years..
Turning my heart anemic..
Dizzy
with childish  want
with childish need
Emotions nonexistent
A face like a mask..
with no substance..
A heart with no
way in..
Afraid of you..
Afraid of love..
I gave up on you..
For my own protection..
I buried you..
In a shallow grave in my heart..
That I came to visit..
on days when I craved
even your abuse.
Now after years..
You spared me a drop of salve..
Put the smallest
piece of gauze
on the biggest wound..
A glimmer of hope..
I am once again..
that child..
Digging you out
of your shallow grave..
I created with tiny hands.
Ready to forgive..
Ready to be loved..
Willing to take a chance
my heart still broken..
the pain still alive.
If you try to hurt me..
If this is yet..
another game .. another lie.
My memories
will be buried
in a much deeper grave..
I will be forced
to finally.. forever
let all hope die.

Having been an abused child myself, I know what a hell it can be. I also know
that there's mostly no way to "make it better". Life has a way of killing our dreams,
but it seldom gives us much to replace them with. I found that I could put all that
behind me though, and so should you. It does no good to dwell on what can't be
changed.

You absolutely poured yourself out with this. Very powerful words. SueB

I can feel the pain inside you. I know how difficult it is to cope with those feelings, overcome them. Some manage, some don't.
I wish you luck

Erica, you pull at our hearts nad souls with this poem. Your pain comes through and we want to reach out to you. But you know that this is in the past. It cannot be this way today. You have come so far and your poetry has been reflecting this. Keep looking forward and taking one step at a time and living life one day at a time. We are all here for you. Your friend Bill
