Sun slats

Slice openings in the canopy,

Miles up, it seems,

From where I crouch,

Watching a snail,

Inching along

The leafy arm

Of a dewey bush.

Dappling the earth,

Leaves tango, keeping time

To the tempo

Of the breeze,

Flirting, bowing,

Rhythmically decorating

The floor of

The forest.

I can feel the breeze in this one, Katydid. I just hope there's no bears walking around and taking a dump while the wind blows.

An economy of words with a largess of mise en scene - this one defines all that is wonderful in nature poetry.

I just love the image of the sun slanting through the canopy. And the rest of the visual effects only added to it.

OK Katy...You know my weakness is poetry about nature., and trees. etc. I don't know, however if I have ever read another poem where a snale actually flirted with anything at all. (kidding). Just imagine the snail's view of the canopy. Must truely be awesome, as was your description of your own viewpoint. Can you imagine being there and really viewing all this. I have always wanted to visit tht rain forest. thanks for the great write.
