Almost Home

You won’t even see me coming
You’ll think you’re all alone
But I’ll be there just the same
You see, I’m almost home
I can feel the mist around me
And see the clear blue sky
Your face is getting clearer
And soon I’ll be nearby
I was unsure up to that fiery end
Unsure of what would be
Trying to figure it at the last minute
Trying desperately to believe
No, you won’t even see me coming
You will seem to be all alone
But I will be by your side just the same
You see, I’m almost home
I saw it as they said I would
That white, shining light
And I knew where I was going
Where I would be tonight
Whisked away in a moment
As if upon a star
Souls shooting through space around me
And I’ll wonder what you are
This bright slice of starlight
Guiding me along the way
Easing my uneasy spirit
Knowing now where I will stay
Someplace in someone’s heaven
Where someplace is everywhere
And that is how I will visit you
How I will always be right there
And you won’t even see me coming
You may think you’re all alone
But I will be there just the same
You see, I’m almost home
Not left haunting at Ground Zero
Not left smoldering beneath the ground
I’ll be there any minute
For I am homeward bound
Whisked away in a moment
As if upon a star
Souls shooting through space right with me
And I’ll wonder what you are
This shimmering piece of starlight
That guides me along the way
It eases this once uneasy spirit
To know where I will stay
And you won’t even see me coming
You may even think you’re all alone
But I will be right there just the same
You see, I’m almost home
Yes, I will be there just the same
You see, I’m already home
