My friend and I are of an age

Like independent cats.

When we don't care what other's think

We say we're wearing our purple hats.

Miss Priss and I (that's not her name)

Have tea, discussing world affairs

She brings the scones, I bring myself

Noone disturbs us.... Noone dares!

Admiring her tomatoes, barefoot, grinning,

We chat and think we're terrific!

We are, of course, our world is spinning

Neither of us ever gets sick.

When we sail along, quite free from care

Our purple hats a-flapping

I sing out loud, she hums along

And all four feet are tapping.

Oh, no, my dears, we aren't THAT old

Just inching past the stages

That plagued our youth with old self-doubts

We've turned those weary pages.

Katydid, maybe you've turned a few pages, but don't let anyone say you can't write. I like this one. By the way, do you really have a purple hat?

HAHAHAHA..I sooooo know what you mean. I have a best friend like this too. We shamefully, worry the young men with our "we are more experienced talk" and prance around in our fairy costumes. Ahh dont you just love being a woman of the world.
Love, love, love this fantastic poem.

Until I read this delightful piece of very readable wisdom I didn't realise that I had been wearing a purple hat for "some time" now. I enjoyed the words, the wisdom, the inspiration, the romp and, of course, the foot-tapping (did you hear me?)

Now this is a great write, Katy. It exudes a nobility that only comes with self-assurance of learned experience. The poem asserts itself with an air of "take it or leave it" dignity. I loved it.

The voice of the Poet sounds through "Purple Hats" and materializes depicting solidarity and companionship. It is a wise lesson on how to up grade humanity.

The poem flows over the river of understanding and the reflex of the sun of love melts the ice of indifference. It runs calmly under the sounds of hope, and the gates of communication can be seen from far away, even by those who may refuse to see the candle of friendship lighted up by the doors of life.

"Purple Hats" etched a picture of a sage poet on the shield of my mind. This poem has impressed me by teaching solidarity and showing the way to happiness through a real life of unity of the divinity of the mind with the humanity of the soul.

I Salute You, Author Poet Katy L. Walsvik.

They say that Stephen Hartley is one of the United Kingdom's worst serial killers... perhaps... but he's definitely the most nerdy...
