The Summer Bash 2003 was an enormous success.
Saturday, August 16th from 10 til almost midnight, the Downtown area on Main Street was the place to be. With thousands in attendance to enjoy a family day of events, such as:
The Hamblen County Car Club, Car Show.
(I am repenting a covetous moment over a 1961 MGA in mint condition....the
price, however, was a humbling deterrent.)
2nd Annual Bike Rally...beautiful machines.
There were activities for the children..giant inflatables, face painting, etc..
and my favorite....
Live entertainment.
As the exclusive media sponsor and in my capacity of Promotions and Special events coordinator, it was my pleasure be in on the planning, coordinating and to broadcast live, in front of the stage.
Joe Powell, Cuppa Joe Show, emceed the first half. Introducing such talents as:
Smiley and the LoveDawg. A great team led by Chris Durman. Playing country folk and blue grass.
Lo Pas Filters. A local group making their way to the top. Featuring a fabulous Bassist, Mark Brooks, who has worked and recorded with stars such as Dolly Parton.
Michael Reno Harrell, a folk and story writer/singer/performer.
Michael says he tours about half the year, around the country. He takes most of his life experiences and turns them into song. He can be counted as the Woody Guthry of this time. He is also a talented artist and has some of his sketches included in his new CD.
Michael Middlebrooks and the Untouchables. OY! I am oeverwhelmed with the rest of the crowd. These guys are Hot Hot Hot.
Michael, himself, came into the station on Friday for interviews. We had an opportunity to meet so that I could correlate the shedule with him.
I finished with a broadcast break and had the 'FUN' of dancing in the street. Derek, the lead singer, plays the audience like a fine tuned instrument. he came over and danced with me and then broke out into 'Brick House' ....I couldn't stop dancing then...he sang it just for me, that set. How great is that!!!
Michael Middlebrooks has played with such noted talents as James Brown, The Temptations and a host of others. A phenominal percussionist, Michael is also a nice guy. After the first set I met with he and Derek. Michael presented me with a one of a kind CD inscribed with a lovely personal message. He also took one of my own CD's with him. (sigh).
The weather held out...it rained and stormed around us, but Main Street was spared.
I helped award the People's Choice Award for the best car in show...with the trophy I helped design. Half of the proceeds collected were awarded to the winner and the other half will be given to a local charity organization called The Daily Bread. One that I am personally involved in promoting and supporting, as well.
When I wrapped up the broadcast at 6pm, I was fotunate enough to emcee the evenings entertainment as the bands returned for a second set.
It was an incredible day. Te Downtown Morristown (Merchants) Association were pleased and so was I. It was a hit!
I'm looking forward to the next.
Thanks to all those who contacted me after reading 'my events' here on the den...and wishing me luck with it. It was a lot of hard work and planning, but worth it all.
hugs and love
krissy

Krissy, quite a "shindig" you and your radio station catered to. Wow, dancing with celebreties ! You work so hard and really deserved the promotion. It appears you are back at full force. But take a break once in an while and go slow ok? I know you will.
It would be so nice if you would get positive feed back on your CD. Bill |
