Here Am I

Here am I, encased in bone and flesh
My mind, at times, within the heavenlies
My body, of course, upon this earth
Yet, I'm awestruck by spiritual mysteries

I navigate in this arena of life
Like a roman charioteer behind a raging horse
Constantly struggling to keep my balance
Hoping to survive, to keep my life on course

Trying to influence my destiny
I charge toward an ideal from deep within
Yet, my ideals, goals and my will,
Do constantly change as I grow, again

From fathomless depths
Of mankind's vast potentiality
I'm encouraged and nourished
By thoughts of spirit's immortality

Gifts stir from within the soul of me
Pointing a way, holding negativity at bay
Giving me strength and courage needed
To face yet more day

Oh why am I given such glorious bouquets?
Insights that surface from an eternal sea
Days of warmth, laughter, glimpses of hidden ways
Hints of mankind's awesome possibility

May I be appreciative and spend my time wisely
May I be a benefactor, a giver to humanity
A lover of mankind, respecting earth's majesty
A worthy being! A testament to life's creativity!

Awesome poem Gwen. I love its ebb and flow, but most of all the meaning behind the lines. This is wonderful, a great document of your ideas and feelings (which others also share).

I love to read poems like this, as well as write them. You expressed your spiritual insights, not only beautifully, but perfectly.
This poem was very powerful for me, as these are my own thoughts and beliefs.
We are traveling the same road, Dear Friend.
It's been a long road for me, one I thought had no direction. (when I was younger) Now, much older, I find excitement and inspiration in looking back and seeing there was a path I was following, that led me to who I am now.
Thank You for this lovely poem.
