It is months before I realize
I never sing anymore. And,
despite pills prescribed,
I rarely talk or smile.

I have learned strange economy
with words, reduced communication
to simple requests and a few
necessary phrases.

“Thank you,” and “I love you”
I shower upon my son,
plus our ritual when
day is done.

Otherwise it’s, “please God
please God please God please”
and, “When will you let
me come home?”

I do so appreciate your pen of honesty, Honesty when scribed to parchment expells the dark, and ushers in light, thank you for the light you cast upon my path this day.
